1/6/25: Is soup made with Homegrown Butternut Squash better than Store-bought? Part One

Hello and Happy New Year 2025!

I was searching for a topic for our first video of 2025, when I remembered there was still butternut squash from the garden to chop up. I finally found time to do a video about a taste test for which is better — squash baked in the oven for ease of separating from its skins — or squash diced and boiled in turkey broth? THEN, I was going to do a fake taste-test with some store-bought varieties, and what I stumbled on was a new Mission. Because the store-bought versions were not even in the same orbit as our homemade soup.

They were horrible. I mean laughably-horrid.

What I ended up with is a three-part series about making Homemade Butternut Squash Soup and taste-testing it with three store-bought varieties. This video is Part One: Making Entry #1: Butternut squash soup made w/homegrown squash baked in the oven w/veggies and spices, puréed w/turkey broth. Entry #2 is the same recipe only with sliced and diced squash instead of baked and puréed, but it’s still homegrown. That video has been filmed but is not yet edited. The Taste Test Competition has also been filmed, but not edited.
